Achtergronden FAT CHOPS, de band van ex-MYJO spelers

Ex- Myjo players (boven de MYJO leeftijdsgrens) hebben drie jaar geleden hun MYJO-Alumni
big band opgericht.

Fat Chops big band was formed about three years ago, mostly
out of
ex-Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra players, and includes MYJO
Musical Director as lead trumpet.
The band is lead by John Ruddick Jr, and in its short life has
achieved
considerable success, winning the BBC Big Band Competition in 1998
(a year when MYJO was ineligible) and producing its first CD with
singer Lee Gibson. She is one of the top jazz singers, frequently
appearing on both radio and TV and in many international jazz
festivals.
The CD is called "FRIM FRAM SAUCE". Details can be
obtained from
John Ruddick at john_g_ruddick@hotmail.com
The CD has received
enthousiastic reviews from many parts of the world.
Fat Chops recently commissioned a Suite of Music from band
member
Martin Williams, now one of the best yuong jazz composers/arrangers
anywhere. The Music, called "the century suite" (to mark the
Millennium)
received its first performance in January in Birmingham UK, and the
guest soloist was Nigel Hitchcock, the formidable talented alto sax player
from London.
Fat Chops can only be listened to in the UK, yet........! This might
soon
change.
